Where it all got started
Spectro Coating Corp. started when Hemendra Shah was employed by Vertipile for more than 17 years, and he was given the opportunity to purchase the idled flock coating division of Vertipile/Quaker Fabrics in 1988. Hemendra brought back 35 employees, and they rebuilt some of the dismantled coating lines. Each flocking line was slowly put back piece by piece. Claremont Flock, housed in the same location, was bought by management and employees in 1988.
The Growing Market
As the export market for flocked upholstery fabrics started to grow in the 90’s Spectro grew with it. The business was driven by upholstery fabrics that were exported worldwide. Spectro became the leader in supplying greige flock goods for wet printing, dyeing and heat transfer printing. The operation grew to 5 flocking lines and was running close to 24/7 with 175 employees. The team perfected the art of air embossing and heat setting on greige goods, which set Spectro apart from the industry.
Our Continued Growth
Spectro’s team was also able to diversify by supplying flocked roll to roll goods for the Optical and various polishing, high tech, medical, automotive, military, and many more markets. Today, the diversification into various markets outside of upholstery have paid off. As other flock companies in the industry have disappeared, Spectro has innovated to stay at the forefront of the industry. Investments in people and equipment, innovation, quality, and service has allowed Spectro to continue its journey to provide the most innovative flock products in the industry.
In 2000, Raj Shah joined the operation. Raj went through NC State’s Textile program and worked for Milliken & Co for several years. Raj’s focus has been on non added value and innovative products. With the diverse capabilities, focus on service and the technological know how Hemendra, Raj and the team continue to move the company forward.
In 2009, Spectro acquired the assets of Claremont Flock’s US operation. This allowed Spectro to vertically integrate, reduce costs, and diversify its portfolio. In 2020, Spectro acquired the assets of Dorrie International, renaming to American Flock Tape, and creating Spectro as the world’s only vertical manufacture of automotive flock tape for window sealing.
Along the way, Spectro exploited its capabilities to coat and print glitters on most roll to roll substrates, and expanded it’s coating abilities.
Spectro’s team prides itself on customer service, quality, and innovation. The manufacturing operation is based in the USA, the company is ISO 9001:2015 registered and minority business certified.
